About the Blog
As a Dominican living abroad I thought the Nature Islander was a great title for paying respects to my homeland but also for best representing me. In this blog I share my experience and insights from traveling as well as various musings and commentary.
I can’t promise you consistency as life rarely is, but I hope you find these post helpful if not somewhat amusing.
Hi, my name is Jade Alexander and I’m The Nature Islander. I was born in Dominica and raised in the small village of Wesley in the parish of St Andrews where I attended the North East Comprehensive High School (NECS). So as you see authenticity is not an issue here! I am Dominica, are you? (Inside joke from an ad campaign – please don’t think I’m crazy.)
Writing has always been a passion of mine and when partnered with my avid love for travel and trying new things the decision to start a blog was a no brainer. I don’t believe there is anything particularly unique about me but I do believe I exist in a space where very few Dominicans are blogging about the uniqueness of their experience living abroad or traveling.

Words to Ponder
“
“A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines. With consistency a great soul has simply nothing to do. He may as well concern himself with his shadow on the wall.
Speak what you think now in hard words, and to-morrow speak what to-morrow thinks in hard words again, though it contradict every thing you said to-day. — ‘Ah, so you shall be sure to be misunderstood.’ — Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood?
Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.”
